Biography

Professor Chakraborti obtained PhD degree in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from IACS, Kolkata, India in 1985 and post-doctoral research training in USA [Organic Chemistry (1985-1987): Clemson University, South Carolina; Medicinal Chemistry (1987-1989): Purdue University, Indiana, during]. He was a Chemistry faculty at Burdwan University, India during 1990-1994. He joined Medicinal Chemistry department, NIPER, Punjab, India as Assistant Professor in 1994, became Associate Professor in 1999, and Professor and Head in 2001. He has guided 36 PhD and 123 Masters’ students, published 169 research papers (citation > 8800, h-index 56, i-10 index 138), filed 42 patents. He received several awards and recognition [University Gold Medal, Bardhaman Sammilani Gold Medal, ISMAS Eminent Mass-spectroscopist award, Ranbaxy Research Award (Pharmaceutical Sciences), Chemical Research Society of India Bronze Medal, Rajnibhai V. Patel PharmInnova Best Research Guide Awards for the “Most Innovative PhD Thesis” during 2017-2018 and 2016-2017 and “Most Innovative MS Thesis” during 2015-2016 and 2014-2015 in “Pharmaceutical Chemistry”]. He is Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Indian Academy of Sciences, and Indian National Science Academy. His research interest is new drug discovery in tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, and inflammation through development of novel synthetic methodologies (catalysis, C-H activation etc.) in compliance with the green chemistry principles.
